Miss Lorna Jackson

After completing a teacher training degree in Plymouth, I began my professional teaching career at a large primary school in Luton. My degree had focused on regular teaching practices which allowed me to teach and observe in different year groups at a range of schools. As a result I quickly realised that I was best suited to teaching in Early Years and KS1 so I was delighted that my first position was with a Reception class. During my time in Luton, I continued to enhance my teaching practises and have completed a course on improving communication and language skills through music.

I decided at a young age that I wanted to become a teacher. Through weekly work experience completed prior to going to university and my degree, I developed a firm belief that children should be taught to be independent learners, to embrace new challenges and to become respectful members of the school community and wider society. I encourage all students to achieve their best at all times and to be proud of themselves and their achievements.

During one of my university summer holidays I worked as an activity instructor in Italy. This experience began a desire to teach at an international school. As soon as I heard about BSL, I immediately knew that I would want to teach here and could provide the best educational experience for all my pupils. I am delighted to be joining BSL and fulfilling my personal and professional goals.

About Lorna

I am an adventurous person who enjoys spending time outdoors. My favourite activities are sailing, climbing and kayaking. I have been a member of Girlguiding since I was five. I have learnt many new skills and had some amazing experiences through this, including representing Girlguiding abroad. I am now a qualified leader and mostly volunteer at challenge events and international camps. One of my proudest, personal achievements was completing my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and receiving it at St James’s Palace. I am looking forward to continue developing myself and experiencing a new city and culture.
