STAFF PROFILE - TEACHER

Barbara Kilroy

“I HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD”

After studying French at the University of Southampton, I worked as a teaching assistant in Year 2 for two years before completing my PGCE at IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society. I worked as a Year 1 teacher in London before moving to the Netherlands. I have since worked in Year 2 and Year 3 in two different international primary schools. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with children and families from all over the world. I am looking forward to working in an exciting, new environment and to help to instil a love of learning in my pupils and develop well rounded young people.

I have a passion for Mathematics, largely due to my own educational experience. Throughout primary and secondary school, I was lucky enough to be taught by individuals who were devoted to the teaching of Numeracy. I especially enjoy teaching it in Key Stage 1; at this age we are responsible for introducing children to so many mathematical concepts for the first time. The use of concrete materials and play are so beneficial at this age and I revel in planning activities to engage and challenge all children in my class.

ABOUT MS KILROY

Outside of the classroom, I love to travel and explore new places. I enjoy swimming, especially in the sea. Having lived in the Netherlands for six years, I have come to love long bike rides and walks through the forest. I regularly attend yoga and Pilates classes; I love how it helps my mind and body and teaches me to embrace challenges.
