BSL LIVE! Watch the video.

With a move to the new BSL Middle School site, the welcoming of new students and staff, and the glorious end of summer weather, there was no better way to kick off the academic year than with a week of team building. Term commenced with the innovative and exciting BLS Live. A two-day festival at the Os Belenenses Rugby Club where students were able to get to know each other, catch up after a long summer, meet their new teachers and experience something new. Each year group rotated around 4 workshops, designed to explore four of BSL's key values. These were kindness, creativity, resilience and courage. Between the sessions, we were treated to live music, yoga sessions, picnics in the sunshine and games. It was a glorious way to kick off the term and wonderful to watch all the students engage so well in all the activities.

BSL Live was such a positive experience for all the members of BSL and we are so grateful for having had the opportunity to build relationships within our community and explore some of the important values that act as foundations for our happy and productive school.

As part of our efforts to promote environmental awareness and sustainability, on the
remaining two days of the first week of term the Middle School students went on trips to provide hands-on learning experiences in environmental stewardship and local history.

Each year group spent a day exploring Arrábida Natural Park and the other day was split between EVOA Conservation Centre in Vila Franca de Xira and enjoying a River Tejo cruise on the Vera Cruz caravela replica.

The trips were a huge success, providing a fun and informative education about Lisbon and the ecosystem around us. Particular highlights were finding fossils in the rock beds on the beautiful beach, a competitive and fun beach cleanup, observing a multitude of different birds in the salt marshes to the north of the city and enjoying the wonderful views of Lisbon from a historical boat on the river Tejo.
