STAFF PROFILE - MUSIC TEACHER

Colette Dutot

“I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT CREATING A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WHERE EVERYONE FLOURISHES”

Since qualifying in 1996. I have loved working across different schools in the UK in specialist and leadership roles; running departments, training teachers and setting up new music education projects. I love everything about Music Education and have enjoyed learning from and being inspired by some of the best music educators in the world.

At BSL, we celebrate every child’s musical journey by creating an environment where everyone flourishes, takes creative risks and discovers themselves as a musician by combining fun and excellence. This philosophy has been at the heart of our visionary and vibrant music department at BSL since 2019.

 ABOUT MS DUTOT

I play the piano, clarinet and saxophone, with Jazz and composition being some of my passions. I was honoured to win the Will Michael Jazz Award for Sheffield’s Jazz Vision, and was a featured British Female Composer for a Google Arts & Culture Exhibition in collaboration with the British Music Collection. I also just enjoy the absolute pleasure from playing a beautiful piece by Bach or Chopin.

I grew up in Jersey, Channel Islands and have always loved swimming, surfing, cooking and dancing. Living in Lisbon allows me to do all of this and more!

My favourite quote is: “Jazz is not just music, it’s a way of life, it’s a way of being, it’s a way of thinking” – Nina Simone
