STAFF PROFILE - TEACHER

Laura Power

“MY FUNDAMENTAL BELIEF IS THAT CHILDREN LEARN BEST WHEN THEY FEEL CONFIDENT AND HAPPY IN THEIR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.”

I first left home in Ireland to study and work as a clinical audiologist in Scotland. My experiences working in paediatric audiology departments confirmed my desire to work with children and I decided to pursue a postgraduate teaching degree at the University of Glasgow. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent teaching in Scotland after graduation but was always attracted to the prospect of teaching internationally. I moved to the south of Spain and spent four lovely years teaching and gaining experience of EYFS and KS1 within the English National Curriculum. I moved to Lisbon in 2021 and have enjoyed two years working within the KS1 team at BSL.

My aim is to create a classroom that buzzes with positive energy, engagement and enthusiasm. I am passionate about supporting children to flourish, gain independence and discover their own passions.

ABOUT MS POWER

On a personal level, I am very interested in history and culture. I love discovering new places on foot. I think the experience of stepping out of your comfort zone to learn something new defines you as a more understanding teacher. It is a pleasure to teach children in a city as vibrant and inspiring as beautiful Lisbon!
