STAFF PROFILE - HEAD OF MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

MIRIAM SILVA

I CONSIDER EDUCATION, AND MORE SPECIFICALLY TEACHING, TO BE A FUNDAMENTAL PILLAR FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL AS A WHOLE PERSON, ALWAYS SEEKING TO DELIVER CLASSROOM EXPERIENCES WHICH SUPPORT PERSONAL GROWTH ALONG WITH ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.”

I have a Language Teaching Degree in Portuguese, Latin and Greek from the University of Aveiro.

I have taught Portuguese as a foreign language and Portuguese literature at different levels. I have worked in different settings and after 10 years working overseas in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and East Timor, I returned to Portugal feeling a citizen of the world but very grateful for my roots. Most recently, I have been teaching International Baccalaureate Curriculum (IB) in an international school.

My ethos is integrity and ethical behaviour, always attentive to the individual needs and well-being of each student.  My peers describe me as a creative, empathetic and enthusiastic professional. I reflect regularly on the impact of my actions and those around me. Empathy, acceptance, appreciating differences and respecting group dynamics – these are all values that I uphold and which are essential as a teacher.

 ABOUT MS SILVA

I love bird watching so it will be very common to see me looking at the trees to try to find birds. I also enjoy snorkelling, club reading, writing, playing tennis and gardening.
