STAFF PROFILE - ENGLISH TEACHER

Sophie Armitage

“I STRIVE TO CREATE AN ENGAGING AND EMPOWERING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WHERE STUDENTS CAN THRIVE.”

After graduating with a Bachelors in Philosophy from Bristol University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the IoE, UCL, I have taught English from Year 7 through to A Level in secondary schools in London for the past 7 years. Most recently, I was a Head of Year at an award-winning secondary school in North West London. Leading my year group from Year 8 through to Year 11, I have a long-term, cross-curricular vision of a successful secondary education and a firm belief in the importance of personalised attention for each student whilst building strong partnerships to create a supportive learning environment.

As an avid reader and lover of literature, I encourage my students to explore different genres, authors and literary works. Literature is so important in order for us to form our own identities and embrace the differences of others with tolerance and compassion. In my classroom, I strive to create an engaging and empowering learning environment where students can thrive and develop a lifelong love for the English language.

ABOUT MS ARMITAGE

Outside of the classroom, you will find me reading, in a yoga class or exploring new restaurants and music. Having grown up in America and Singapore, I love exploring different cultures and am looking forward to the adventures that life in Lisbon will bring.
