STAFF PROFILE - HEADMASTER

Stephen Spicer

“IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THERE IS LITTLE MORE IMPORTANT IN LIFE THAN ENSURING CHILDREN, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY, ENJOY THEIR EDUCATION, FEEL HAPPY AND SAFE AND ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.”

It is my belief that there is little more important in life than ensuring children, regardless of ability, enjoy their education, feel happy and safe  and achieve their full potential.

Success in a school is not just measured academically, traditional values are important and, in a friendly and welcoming environment, students and parents should be known as individuals. I believe in a holistic approach to education, ensuring pastoral care has as much emphasis as academic excellence. A further priority of mine has been to encourage students to consider, and support, those less fortunate than themselves.

Prior to joining The British School of Lisbon, I was the Headmaster at Sherborne Senior School, Qatar, for seven years. Before then I was Head of Secondary at Academia Británica Cuscatleca, El Salvador. In total, I have twenty-six years as an educationalist, in highly regarded schools internationally and in the UK.

A first-class honours graduate, with a BSc. in Business Administration from the University of Wales, College of Cardiff, I worked in the publishing and research industries for five years before retraining to be a teacher in my late twenties

I feel extremely privileged to have been able to make a career out of supporting and developing young people.
