I was born and raised in London. Before becoming a teacher, I studied biology at the University of Oxford, and completed a Master’s degree in biochemistry at UCL. Whilst deciding what to do with my career, I did some volunteer work at a local primary school. I was not expecting to, but I absolutely fell in love with teaching! I trained as a teacher at the University of Cambridge, and then completed a Master’s degree in education there, focussing on the use of drama to deepen understanding of complex subjects across the curriculum. I have worked as a year 5 and year 6 teacher at a school in North London, and am also a mentor for new teachers, guiding them through the process of making sure their lessons are as engaging and enriching as possible.
I love being a teacher, and I hope that anybody walking into my classroom will feel that passion. I endeavour to make sure that every day at school is worth the children’s time and effort, that they leave school each day with a deeper understanding of the world, and feeling more enriched and empowered, than when they walked in that morning. I believe that a classroom should be a warm, welcoming and fun place, where children are happy and want to be. I hope that they are all nurtured to be the best version of themselves, so that they can go on to lead happy lives and make a positive contribution to society.
ABOUT MR MCKENZIE
I have never lived abroad, so I am VERY excited about this new adventure, and discovering all that Lisbon has to offer! I enjoy art and music, reading and writing, and you’ll often find me with my nose buried in a book, or sketching something that catches my eye. Most of all, I love spending time immersed in nature, surrounded by as much greenery as possible! I am happiest when sitting on grass in the sunshine, with a cold drink, good food, and good company.
