On Friday, 12th February, BSL celebrated Carnival Day.  The children always enjoy our whole school celebrations, and these occasions play an important role in bringing our school community together.  The Portugal Carnival goes back hundreds of years. It has its roots in religion when people would put on costumes and celebrate the day before Lent.  In Lisbon, it is usually a colourful event with street parties and elaborate costumes.

Our celebration was adapted for our @Home Learning programme and the theme for the day was ‘masks’, particularly how we can use masks, headdresses and our faces during celebrations.  As anticipated, the children were extremely creative and a sea of colour arrived at our virtual assembly.  Led by our Portuguese teacher, Ms Serra, the children laughed, danced and entered into the spirit of the festival!
